Penelope’s Rose had a unique backstory. I was told the V.P. at Blizzard wanted to have painting of his young daughter painted into a scene for the WOW tcg. They had another artist do it initially but didn’t end up being what they were looking for. The art director said “I thought you’d be perfect. Are you up for 1 more WoW card painting?”

I said yes, because I enjoy the rare opportunity to paint children and have had very few opportunities to illustrate them for “jobs”. I used a combination of reference I was provided and uploaded the piece for review. The response came back saying “The painting looks great and the father LOVES it. >approved<“

Penelope’s Rose 

Item Action: Show a beautiful girl child gently gripping a red rose in her hands. Maybe sitting on the stone steps of some ruins in Azshara or the “Terokkar Forest” setting could also work. Artist choice.

Notes: The mood of this piece should be “serene, wondorous”.  The goal is to make the kid look like the picture, while still making this look like Warcraft.

When working on WoW cards there were frequently adjustments and changes which were required. On this one the original description wanted flowers sprouting etc but then they decided they really just wanted swirls of energy with leaves.
